Spurs’ Record Spending Highlights New Ambition, Van de Ven Asserts

Tottenham appointed three managers during the previous season, with Thomas Frank serving less than eight months before being dismissed following a poor start.

Interim manager Igor Tudor departed after 44 days, and Roberto De Zerbi assumed responsibility with seven matches left in the campaign.

Frank found it difficult to win over Tottenham supporters and faced criticism for adopting a safety‑first style.

Van de Ven is confident that De Zerbi will improve the team’s football, aided by recent signings and a full pre‑season to integrate them.

‘It will be different from the previous manager,’ Van de Ven stated.

‘We’ll focus more on playing with the ball, emphasizing football, which should make matches more enjoyable for fans as we adopt an attacking style,’ he added.

‘You can see he has injected great passion into the squad, both mentally and on the pitch,’ Van de Ven noted.

‘We needed this boost; the whole group had been feeling a bit down,’ he said.

‘He brings strong energy, and during pre‑season we have had ample time to embed his style into the team, which is truly enjoyable,’ he added.

Earlier this month, Spurs set new transfer records, signing midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85 million and then securing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle for £100 million.

Jan Paul van Hecke, a Dutch teammate of Van de Ven, joined from Brighton for £52 million, while the free arrivals of Marcos Senesi, Andrew Robertson and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka bolstered the squad.

‘The team’s atmosphere feels really good,’ Van de Ven affirmed.

‘I’ve truly enjoyed working with him,’ Van de Ven said, adding that the new arrivals have been ‘unbelievable.’

‘They have settled in well with the group,’ he concluded.
