A Sri Lankan High Court has convicted 15 men accused of helping plan the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, which killed 270 people and injured more than 500.
Among those found guilty is Naufer Moulavi, who prosecutors said masterminded the coordinated suicide attacks. Nine other defendants were acquitted.
The blasts targeted three churches and three luxury hotels, making them Sri Lanka’s deadliest attack since the end of the country’s civil war in 2009. Forty-five of those killed were foreign nationals.
All of the attackers who carried out the bombings died in the explosions. Investigators have previously attributed the assault to Islamist extremists, and the 25 men originally indicted were members of Sri Lanka’s Muslim minority. One died while in custody.
The defendants faced more than 23,000 charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit terrorism and firearms offences.
