[Naman Dhir Delivers Three‑Wicket Masterclass in India’s Debut T20I]
Lucknow, October 7: Naman Dhir, an all‑rounder, made a potent impression on his debut by claiming a three‑wicket haul against the West Indies in the inaugural T20I at Ekana Stadium.
Coming aboard on his off‑spin, Dhir recorded an economy of 3/31, restricting the West Indies to 171 before steering the chase in just 14.4 overs—showcasing his skill and adaptability.
“I am still seeking a regular opportunity to bat, but I’m grateful for contributing alongside a successful team and hearing the squad’s triumph,” Dhir said during the post‑match interview.
The 26‑year‑old noted that the atmosphere and pitch at Ekana pushed him toward a slower, unconventional style of bowling, and that approach proved highly effective.
Dhir also credited the Indian Premier League for sharpening his readiness for world‑class competition. As a former Mumbai Indians player, he believes experience at franchise level built the poise needed for international cricket.
Born in Ambala, Dhir recalled the selection as a surreal appointment, particularly given his involvement in a Ranji Trophy camp with the Punjab Cricket Association weeks earlier. Upon dropping the call‑up, he reached out to his father, whose emotion quickly surfaced.
“Every child dreams of representing his nation, and it felt extraordinary given the humble origins,” Dhir said, reflecting on the privilege of earning early exposure.
While his batsman contribution remains an anticipated asset, the performance has already illustrated India’s emerging all‑round talent.
