Summer Fridays is expanding into bodycare, releasing its Body Fragrance Mist and Body Butter Balm as part of a strategic roadmap designed to evolve the brand beyond its initial viral success and establish long-term relevance in the competitive beauty industry.
“We truly see ourselves as a global legacy brand,” said co-founder Marianna Hewitt. “After eight years of building the business, brand, and team we’re more confident than ever about our ability to stand the test of time.”
The company’s journey began with the viral Jet Lag mask in 2018, which established its core identity around hydrating skincare and a ‘forever summer’ aesthetic. Following the success of their 2020 Lip Butter Balm and subsequent forays into cosmetics like blush balms and lip liners, the brand has gradually broadened its product range. The addition of bodycare products continues this trajectory, building on earlier explorations in fragrance including a belly oil and lotion releases.
Co-founder Lauren Ireland emphasized that longevity requires both operational excellence and market alignment. “The key to longevity is whether customers continue to reorder in year five and whether we’ve built the backend capabilities to sustain that – supply chain, forecasting, in-field operations,” Ireland explained. “Equally critical is understanding our audience. Our sweet spot remains millennial and older Gen Z consumers, and they’ve clearly communicated their preferences.”
The brand’s retail strategy has also been carefully curated. Rather than pursuing an exclusively social media or direct-to-consumer approach, Summer Fridays partnered with Sephora from its inception through a connection facilitated by friend and beauty entrepreneur Jen Atkin. Sephora’s North America CEO Artemis Patrick provided crucial early guidance on consumer profiles and shopping behaviors, helping position the brand beyond influencer-associated perceptions.
“We knew going in that people had preconceptions about creator brands,” Hewitt noted. “Having Sephora as a partner validated our product quality and gave us access to a much larger audience than our online community alone. We wanted consumers to experience our products in-store, and Sephora provided that credibility bridge.”
The bodycare expansion comes as the brand navigates increased market competition and evolving consumer expectations. By combining product innovation with strategic retail partnerships and operational scale, Summer Fridays positions itself to transform its initial viral momentum into sustained industry presence.
