PARIS — A shooting in a Paris suburb left one person dead and four others wounded after gunfire erupted from a vehicle on Friday, French authorities confirmed.
A suspect was apprehended near the town of Trappes and placed in police custody. Investigators said the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
“All available resources of the security forces and judicial authorities have been fully mobilized,” said French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu.
The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office is monitoring the situation, authorities added.
The incident occurred as France prepared for a fresh round of demonstrations against the rising cost of living scheduled for Saturday. Major museums closed their doors, and the government deployed a heightened security presence to avert a repeat of last week’s violent unrest that shocked the nation.
