AEW standout Swerve Strickland has expressed his condolences following the passing of a foundational figure in his professional wrestling journey.
Taking to social media on Friday, Strickland confirmed the death of Ron “The Pharaoh” Cromartie, his initial trainer at the Ground Xero Wrestling Academy. Cromartie was a prominent veteran on the Virginia wrestling circuit, fulfilling roles as a performer, promoter, and instructor over the years.
“R.I.P. Ron ‘The Pharaoh’ Cromartie,” Strickland wrote. “My original trainer passed over this past week. I just wanted everyone to know he was a great human and loved pro wrestling. He will be incredibly missed. I hope I made you proud.”
Cromartie had openly expressed pride in Strickland’s subsequent accomplishments within the industry.
After Strickland captured the AEW World Championship in April 2024, Cromartie celebrated his former pupil’s milestone via a Facebook post.
“All things right, as they should be. The universe is in perfect balance,” Cromartie wrote. “Proud of you, kid. #SwerveStrickland”
Strickland secured the AEW World Championship by defeating Samoa Joe at the Dynasty event, representing the most significant title win of his career.
