Swiss authorities announced on Friday morning that the forthcoming round of U.S.–Iran talks, which were set to address the nuclear program and other key issues at Bürgenstock on Lake Lucerne, has been postponed.
The statement offered no indication of a rescheduled date, prompting questions regarding the memorandum of understanding signed earlier this week by President Trump and Iran’s president. That agreement identified several unresolved points and stipulated a 60‑day window for further negotiation.
Vice President Dan Vance had been slated to travel to Bürgenstock Resort on Lake Lucerne for a Friday meeting originally intended as a signing ceremony, but he abruptly withdrew his trip late Thursday evening from Washington.
The Swiss foreign‑affairs office confirmed the cancellation, stating, ‘Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks.’ It added that preparatory work at Bürgenstock is ongoing and that no additional details could be provided at this time.
The U.S. delegation’s spokesperson echoed this message in a separate release.
The spokesperson noted, ‘The schedule for the forthcoming technical talks remains unfinalized, and the U.S. delegation stands ready to depart at the earliest opportunity. Nonetheless, the logistics surrounding these negotiations have historically proven complex and unpredictable.’
