GENEVA — Police in northern Switzerland have arrested a suspect in connection with a weekend shooting at a rave that resulted in one fatality and five injuries, authorities announced Monday.
The 43‑year‑old Swiss national was taken into custody shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, according to a statement from Aargau canton police.
Investigators are still probing a possible motive, and the case is currently believed to involve a lone assailant. The exact location of the arrest was not disclosed.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday in Aarau, the capital of Aargau canton. A 22‑year‑old woman succumbed to her wounds at the scene, while four men and one woman, ages 24 to 27, were transported to hospitals with a range of injuries from minor to critical.
All of the victims are Swiss residents, Swiss police reported. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni identified the deceased woman and two other victims as Italian citizens on Sunday evening.
Aargau police have scheduled a press conference for Wednesday and will not release additional details until that briefing.
The rave, organized at a horse racing track on the outskirts of Aarau, was drawing to a close when the shooting occurred.
