Tate McRae challenges stereotypes with her new single “Housewife.”
The accompanying video shows the pop star strutting and dancing through a mansion, yacht, and extravagant settings while she sings, “I just want to make a lot of money, be my own housewife/You could be the one I call honey/Be my secret fling.” At one moment she pushes a baby carriage overflowing with cash.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week, the Canadian pop star teased the track. “I’m thrilled. I haven’t released new music in a while, and it’s really about a woman who refuses to be confined,” McRae said. “We filmed it in the south of France; it was magical and a lot of fun.”
Fallon then asked if McRae had planted any Easter eggs hinting at the song’s release.
“My fans are always hunting for Easter eggs, yet they usually miss them,” McRae replied. “They latch onto the wrong details—like thinking sunglasses mean the next single is called ‘Sunglass!’—while overlooking the obvious clues.”
McRae pointed out the most blatant hint during her Lollapalooza set in Chicago last August, noting that the word “Housewife” flashed onstage as the show began. “It was right there in my Lollapalooza performance,” she said. “When the set started, the screen displayed ‘Housewife.’”
Her headline performance at the festival was a standout; she closed with her hit “Sports Car” and, for the finale, dove into a gigantic tub of liquid gold, emerging coated in the shimmering metal like a trophy.
The new single follows her 2025 album So Close To What, which launched at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving her first chart‑topping single.
