Soon after a Trump-linked TikTok account featured Taylor Swift’s song “August,” the artist succeeded in having the track removed from the video.
Earlier this week, the Team Trump TikTok channel — launched for the 2024 campaign — posted a clip of Donald and Melania Trump watching fireworks, set to Swift’s “August.” The caption read, “I’m sure Taylor Swift will be thrilled we used her song! #taylorswift #maga #august,”.
On Friday, U.S. viewers noticed that the Folklore track had been taken down from the offending TikTok, displaying the notice, “The copyright owner hasn’t made this sound available in your country.”
After Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and Trump declared “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,” the Team Trump account repeatedly used the singer’s music in antagonistic TikTok posts.
It wasn’t just “August” that was removed from a Team Trump TikTok: Variety reports that a Team Trump TikTok featuring Swift’s “Father Figure,” posted in November 2025 also had its audio stripped. However, this is not a blanket takedown, as an official White House TikTok from last November still includes the track “The Fate of Ophelia.”
The White House also took the opportunity to poke fun at Swift when she married Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden, posting a series of memes on the day of the wedding in July.

The president’s growing animosity toward Swift dates back further than the latest election. During the 2018 midterms, Swift voiced support for Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen against Republican Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee. The then-president later addressed her position in a public comment outside the White House.
“Taylor Swift knows nothing about [Blackburn],” Trump remarked, adding, “I like her music about 25 percent less now, OK?”
