Taylor Swift Sets New MTV VMA Record as Madonna Also Takes Home an Award

Swift, Charli XCX and Lisa of Blackpink were among the celebrities strolling the blue carpet before the show.

Lisa made history as the first Asian solo artist to capture the Best Pop award for her track “Dream,” whose music video featured Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi.

The Thai rapper‑singer beat out pop heavyweights such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Olivia Rodrigo to claim the honor.

Lisa, whose real name is Lalisa Manoba, was visibly moved while accepting her award. Speaking to her fans, known as Lillies, the 29‑year‑old said she “wouldn’t be here without you guys.”

British singers Raye and Sienna Spiro, winners of the Best New Artist award, also took the stage, joining tributes to the late Dolly Parton and George Michael.

Another British act, PinkPantheress, shared the Best Art Direction award with Sweden’s Zara Larsson for their collaboration “Stateside.”

BTS took home both Best Group and Song of the Year for “Swim,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “The Cure” won Best Alternative, and Nirvana received the Video Vanguard honor.
