Washington — Teledyne FLIR Defense has unveiled a compact counter-unmanned aerial system radar designed to aid forces in detecting and tracking airborne threats, the company announced today.
Dubbed the Ranger R10-3DX, the system supports a range of missions including counter-drone operations, force protection, airport security, border surveillance, and coastal monitoring, the company stated in its release.
“Small unmanned aircraft continue to present growing security challenges across military installations, airports, and other key infrastructure sites worldwide,” said Rob Tarantino, senior vice president of surveillance at Teledyne FLIR Defense. “The Ranger R10-3DX gives operators an affordable, compact, and highly capable radar solution that delivers the early warning and tracking performance needed to counter evolving drone threats.”
The R10-3DX employs advanced digital beam-forming technology to deliver continuous wide-area coverage and rapid threat detection within a compact design. Incorporating artificial intelligence for target classification, the system simultaneously tracks multiple targets to distinguish between drones, aircraft, birds, people, and vehicles while maintaining a small form factor.
The R10-3DX can detect micro drones at ranges up to three kilometers (1.86 miles), pedestrians beyond six kilometers, and vehicles at over 12 kilometers, according to Teledyne. The system is configurable for fixed-site installation or mobile platforms, including operation in austere environments.
