The Tennessee Titans have announced they will honor Chris Johnson during the opening game of the 2026 season. The franchise confirmed on Friday that Johnson will be officially inducted into the Titans Ring of Honor during the season opener against the New York Jets.
This tribute follows Johnson’s revelation in June that he was diagnosed with ALS last year. Regarding his decision to share his journey, Johnson expressed hope that his diagnosis “helps even one person get diagnosed sooner, inspires more research, or gives another family hope.”
“Chris Johnson holds a special place in the hearts of our organization and our fans,” said Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk in an official statement. “His stats speak for themselves, and he will forever remain a leader in our record books, but the man behind the yardage deserves just as much celebration. We look forward to welcoming him home on Sept. 13 and officially inducting him into the Titans Ring of Honor.”
Selected by the Titans as a first-round pick in 2008, Johnson earned NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors during his sophomore season after rushing for 2,006 yards. Throughout his tenure with the team through 2013, he recorded over 1,000 rushing yards in each of his six seasons. With 7,965 career rushing yards, he ranks fourth in franchise history, trailing only Eddie George, Derrick Henry, and Earl Campbell.
