Texas A&M’s Week 9 bye defies easy categorization—neither clearly successful nor outright disappointing—with the Aggies sitting at 4-4 overall and 1-4 in SEC play, placing them 13th in the conference standings. Looking ahead to Week 10, Texas A&M travels to face a South Carolina squad that has emerged as one of the league’s most dangerous threats after a dominant 45-25 road victory over Oklahoma.

The latest US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 rankings, released Sunday, underscore the difficulty of Texas A&M’s schedule. All four of the Aggies’ losses have come against ranked opponents, with Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, and Alabama each appearing in the Top 20 of both polls. While rankings alone don’t tell the whole story, they highlight that Texas A&M has endured one of the toughest slates in college football.

The road ahead offers little relief. Three of Texas A&M’s next four opponents are currently ranked, including South Carolina at No. 23 in the AP Poll, Tennessee at No. 16, and Texas at No. 9. Oklahoma, also 4-4 this season, appears to be the Aggies’ most viable remaining opportunity for a win—particularly after South Carolina’s lopsided victory over the Sooners.

Head coach Mike Elko bears responsibility for the team’s performance in those four defeats. Texas A&M has been outscored 120-49 in road games, a trend dating back to last season’s loss to Texas. While the coaching staff must answer for poor preparation, the punishing nine-game SEC schedule has undeniably contributed to the Aggies’ difficulties.
