It simply doesn’t matter.

It makes no difference that on Thursday night, as broadcast on ESPN’s ACC Network, the Miami football team defeated visiting Florida A&M 77-7 in a pre-arranged rout. The contest was so devoid of competitive integrity and so riddled with absurdity that the coaches agreed to shorten the fourth quarter.

Yet, it still doesn’t matter. Miami’s offensive and defensive statistics will be incorporated into its season-long percentages and national rankings, repeatedly highlighted by the media as though the Hurricanes had traveled to play Georgia on the road.

Was Miami doing Florida A&M a financial favor by agreeing to pay them for a record-breaking humiliation? Why not simply send A&M a check directly?
