The Florida Economic Blueprint: A No-Income-Tax State’s Model for National Growth
Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., told Fox News Digital how Florida transformed into the nation’s leading economic powerhouse, defied federal overreach, and created a replicable blueprint for state success.
While tower cranes and rapidly evolving skylines have reshaped Florida’s skyline over the past several years, the foundation of the state’s $1.8 trillion economy rests on more than just physical infrastructure.
State leaders credit a deliberate governing formula—eliminating the state personal income tax, advancing aggressive deregulation, and enforcing fiscal restraint—for propelling the Sunshine State to become one of the nation’s fastest-growing economic engines.
“I’m proud that we have been able to stand up for economic freedom and the safety of our people. I believe this is what is drawing so many residents to Florida,” Ms. Moody explained during her visit to Miami.
“We remain committed to engaging the state’s community while protecting its traditions. Our priority is economic liberty, private markets, and the well-being of every Floridian,” she added.
‘MORE POWER, MORE MONEY’: INSIDE THE ECONOMIC CLASH OVER FLORIDA’S FREE-MARKET BOOM
Early 2026 saw the Florida Chamber of Commerce announce that the state had risen to No. 14 among the world’s largest economies by gross domestic product, with a total GDP of $1.8 trillion—a 6.3% increase year‑over‑year that placed Florida behind Australia and Mexico.

The Chamber attributes the achievement to lower taxes, streamlined regulations, and a commitment to free enterprise—a framework Moody helped design during her tenure as Attorney General, in close collaboration with Governor Ron DeSantis from 2019 through 2025.
“Mourning the challenges of that era was difficult, but we firmly opposed government overreach when it threatened individual rights and safety,” Ms. Moody recalled. “We chose to stand our ground, demonstrating that a government dedicated to protecting citizens can still flourish.”
“That willingness to make tough decisions and uphold principles proves true leadership. Florida led by example, showing how proactive governance can coexist with economic vitality.”
Beyond headline statistics, the state’s rapid population influx—nearly 600,000 new residents in 2022 alone, averaging about 1,640 per day—has tested fiscal constraints on working‑class households. Census data and Florida REALTORS figures show median single‑family home prices surged roughly 50% between 2020 and 2024, creating affordability gaps for service workers, first responders, and longtime Floridians.
Moody emphasized balancing booming growth with environmental stewardship, investing in education, infrastructure, and conservation to protect Florida’s three national parks, its vast forests, and its Everglades ecosystem as the state expands.
“Leadership means making tough choices and standing by principles when it is hardest,” Moody observed. “When we worked together, we recognized that governments under crisis conditions often seek to expand power. By asserting independence and protecting personal liberties, we proved a state could thrive while staying true to core government duties.”
“I am a fifth‑generation Floridian, and I love this state. The rapid population growth—over 1.9 million residents added from 2020 through July 2025—brings both opportunity and new challenges.”
Florida has been the nation’s leading economy for growth from 2019 to 2025, driven by fierce protection of people, safety, and economic freedom,” she stated. “When tax freedom, property rights, and market choices are defended, prosperity naturally follows.”
You can replicate Florida’s success story, not only in Congress in the United States, you can replicate this in other states. If you have people that are committed to remembering what government is supposed to be and what it is not supposed to be and making common sense policy decisions around that principle. And then having an attorney general that will work with lawmakers, policymakers, executives as they are enforcing laws, making sure that that approach is felt, emulated, and the folks are encouraged to stand up for that same approach throughout states and throughout this nation. That will work. That’s what we did here in Florida,” Moody explained.
“If leaders keep that in mind and understand that government is supposed to protect people, protect their rights… The recipe for success is very simple. And if folks are making policy decisions with that in mind, remaining true to the purpose of this country, to the core function of government, states will succeed, people will succeed.”
