Mark Salzmann, chairman of the Bayern Munich supporters’ group Red Docs Munich—which helps maintain the memorial—reported that his mother discovered the damage while driving past the site.
Among the items taken was a glass sculpture originally gifted to Munich’s former mayor, Dieter Reiter. The group regularly gathers tributes left by visitors from around the world, placing a selection of them inside the display case for safekeeping.
Salzmann emphasized that the stolen objects were unique and irreplaceable, though the organization is currently consulting with the foundation regarding potential replacements.
