On the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Tommy Baldwin Jr. announced his departure from Rick Ware Racing, a single-car team driving Cody Ware in the Cup series. He held the competition director role since April 2023.
“My expectations and Rick’s were no longer aligned,” Baldwin stated, emphasizing that the decision preserved their friendship. He will now focus on supporting his sons, Jack and Luke, who pursue racing careers, while taking time to explore future opportunities.
Rick Ware Racing currently ranks last among full-time teams in owner standings, with a best finish of 17th in the 2026 season. No replacement for Baldwin’s role has been announced yet.
A veteran of NASCAR since 1997, Baldwin has served as a crew chief for 630 Cup races, securing five victories. He also owned a Cup team from 2009–2020, which earned two top fives and four top tens in 425 races.
His son Luke made his NASCAR debut in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and has also competed in the Craftsman Truck Series.
