A reliable air purifier with a true HEPA filter can remove at least 99.97% of airborne particles measuring 0.3 microns — including dust, mold, pollen, and bacteria — significantly improving indoor air quality when used correctly.

CNET’s lab team put numerous air purifiers through rigorous testing this year, and the results revealed significant performance gaps between models. Some excel at low-speed operation, others at high speed; some specialize in fine particles, others in larger ones. Coway emerged as the standout brand, claiming the top two spots on our best air purifier list.

Best air purifier for most people

The Coway Airmega 450

The Coway Airmega 450 delivered the strongest overall performance among all units tested this year. It cleared 90% of fine particles (T90) in approximately 49 seconds on high fan and 1 minute 53 seconds on low fan. Fine particles — from wildfire smoke, cooking, fireplaces, and industrial pollution — are 2.5 microns or smaller and can embed deep in the lungs, posing long-term health risks. At $350, it’s $149 below its regular $499 price and considerably more affordable than its sister model, the Coway Airmega 400S, which ranges from $680 to $740.

For consistent fine-particle clearance without the premium price tag, the Coway 450 is the top pick. It also offers real-time air quality monitoring and smart modes.

Best air purifier on low fan

Dreame Furcatch

The Dreame Furcatch impressed our lab team with its low-fan performance, clearing T90 fine particles in 1 minute 26 seconds — 27 seconds faster than the Coway 450 — and coarse particles in exactly 1 minute on low fan, beating every other unit tested in 2026. On high fan, fine-particle clearance took 4 minutes 4 seconds, which lowered its overall average score. The companion app tracks real-time air quality, TVOC, temperature, and humidity, and the AI/Auto mode adjusts speed based on current air conditions — which I confirmed works as intended during painting and cooking. Now discounted 34% from $460 to $305.

While it doesn’t match the Coway on high fan, its exceptional low-fan performance makes it ideal for everyday use — nearly silent on low, with a pet-specific hair-collection chamber that extends filter life.

Should you wait for Prime Day sales to purchase an air purifier?

The Coway Airmega 450 is already $149 off and the Dreame Furcatch is down 34%. Whether those prices hold through Prime Day, disappear, or drop further remains uncertain — we’ll update pricing throughout the event.
