Tour Bus Crashes in Swiss Alps, Multiple Casualties Reported

A tourist coach has overturned in the south-eastern Swiss Alps, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, according to local police.

The vehicle left the road between Susch and Zernez in the Graubünden, also known as Grisons, region late Thursday afternoon.

A significant rescue operation was launched at the scene, involving a large team of emergency responders and several helicopters.

Approximately 48 Dutch passengers were on board the bus, a spokeswoman for the General Dutch Association of Travel Companies confirmed on behalf of tour operator OAD.

A spokesperson told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that the exact number of fatalities and injuries was not yet known.

Photographs circulating on Swiss news websites show the coach lying on its side next to a narrow rural road, surrounded by numerous ambulances as rescue workers attend to the scene.

The coach reportedly departed the Netherlands on Monday and was on a day trip to Switzerland from Austria at the time of the crash.

Zernez serves as the gateway to the Swiss National Park, a vast Alpine reserve covering more than 100 sq km (40 sq miles) across the mountainous Engadine valley.
