Trey Songz Avoids Jail Time, Sentenced to Conditional Discharge in Nightclub Assault Case

R&B singer Trey Songz, born Tremaine Aldon Neverson, has avoided incarceration following his arrest last year for allegedly striking a nightclub employee in New York City. On Wednesday, a Manhattan court sentenced the artist to one year of conditional discharge for a non-criminal violation of second-degree harassment, according to Billboard. Provided Neverson complies with the terms of the sentence for the next 365 days, he will face no jail time or probation.

The charges stemmed from two separate incidents in December 2023. In the first, prosecutors accused Neverson of punching an employee in the face at Dramma Night Club in Times Square on Dec. 4, leading to charges of harassment and misdemeanor attempted assault, per the New York Post. The second incident occurred at Mira restaurant and hookah lounge in Manhattan, where the singer allegedly caused roughly $1,500 in property damage, including broken hookahs, DJ equipment, and furniture. That disturbance resulted in a felony count of second-degree criminal mischief.

After completing court-ordered mental health treatment and adhering to mandated conditions, Neverson was permitted to withdraw his prior misdemeanor plea, leaving only the harassment violation on his record, Billboard reported. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office subsequently dropped the felony charge related to the Mira incident. Neverson’s attorney, Mitchell Schuster, previously told Rolling Stone that his client was not the aggressor at the lounge, stating that security intervened after individuals instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround the singer.
