No player will ever don the No. 47 jersey for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) again. The franchise officially retired the number in honor of Dwayne Bravo, citing his extraordinary contributions to the team, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and cricket in Trinidad & Tobago. Bravo becomes the first player in CPL history to receive this distinction.
“Dwayne Bravo’s contribution to the Knight Riders and to the CPL is impossible to measure,” said Venky Mysore, CEO of the Knight Riders Group, during a ceremony held Saturday night in Port of Spain prior to TKR’s CPL 2026 clash against the Jamaica Kingsmen. “Retiring No. 47 is our way of ensuring that his legacy will forever be a part of this franchise. There could be no more fitting player to become the first in CPL history to receive this honour.”
Bravo, who currently serves as TKR’s head coach, captured five CPL titles as a player between 2015—when the franchise competed as the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel—and 2025. He lifted the trophy as captain of TKR in 2017 and 2018, and again as skipper of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2021.
Across 107 CPL matches, Bravo claimed 129 wickets at an economy rate of 8.74. Despite his last playing appearance coming in 2024, he remains the tournament’s third-highest wicket-taker of all time, trailing only Sunil Narine (139) and Imran Tahir (135).
“Thank you for being an inspiration and a role model,” current TKR captain Nicholas Pooran said in a video tribute released by the franchise. “We’re really happy to have you in our corner. Thank you for being a bigger brother. Thank you for being a father figure at times for us. But most importantly, thanks for being that inspiration in my life.”
Longtime teammate Sunil Narine added, “I think you have paved the way for a lot of young cricketers. The way you care about yourself, your energy levels, and always wanting to win in everything.”
Kieron Pollard, who led TKR to the 2020 title with Bravo in the lineup, offered his gratitude as well. “Thank you for all that you have done obviously for me personally as an individual, and then you know we’re coming together as a force to be reckoned with, something that you always spoke about and being able to win championships and games and create an environment where people will enjoy.”
