President Donald Trump highlighted Micron Technology’s announced $250 billion investment in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, presenting the project as a major boost to American industry.
Micron, headquartered in Boise, Idaho, announced on Thursday that it is accelerating its U.S. manufacturing and research initiatives, with a goal of producing 40 % of its DRAM memory chips domestically.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Bigger investments just keep coming,” and referred to the announcement as “the Trump effect.”Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said the company’s expansion reflects unprecedented demand for memory chips driven by the AI era, and that the new plant will create jobs and strengthen supply chains.
Micron estimates the Clay, New York project will create approximately 50,000 jobs statewide, including 9,000 direct positions. Combined with its Idaho and Virginia facilities, the company projects the overall effort will support an additional 90,000 jobs across the country, advancing U.S. economic and national security goals.
The governor’s office praised the initiative, noting that the investment would strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing while providing opportunities for small businesses nationwide.
