Trump hosting Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for private White House dinner

The Barron’s Roundtable panel examines Anthropic’s prospects for a public offering as AI adoption accelerates.

President Trump and Anthropic chief Dario Amodei are set for a private dinner at the White House on Sunday evening.

Trump confirmed the arrangement to Fox News correspondent Aisha Hasni.

This follows warnings this month from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei highlighting growing AI risks and urging a slower development pace.

“We must slow the pace of AI model improvements. Although progress feels swift, we need to wisely allocate the time gained,” Amodei wrote in an essay.

Last week, Amodei addressed members of the UN Security Council, emphasizing the necessity of establishing international AI standards and collaborative measures to mitigate the dangers posed by rapid technological advances.

Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon stepped down earlier this month, contending that leading AI firms are failing to act responsibly as capabilities accelerate.

“I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years conducting pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither organization is acting responsibly—they are pursuing self‑improving superintelligence at reckless speed, effectively gambling with our safety,” Coxon declared on September 8.

When pressed by Hasni about Amodei’s call for a slower AI development trajectory, Trump responded.

CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, cautioned that AI advancement should proceed more cautiously.

“We’re prepared to discuss the matter. My priority is winning, yet acknowledging an advantage ahead of China may pose strategic challenges,” Trump stated.

Notably absent from the Thursday White House state dinner hosted for Chinese President Xi Jinping included OpenAI chief Sam Altman, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, and Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg.

Trump also announced a key White House briefing for Tuesday featuring House Speaker Mike Johnson alongside multiple AI executives, a session he describes as highly consequential.

Anthropic has been involved in a legal battle with the Pentagon over its designation as a supply‑chain risk tied to defense procurement considerations.

In a 2‑1 decision on Friday, an appellate court ruled in favor of the Pentagon, permitting the department to continue labeling Anthropic as a “supply‑chain risk” for the Defense Department’s acquisition process.

“Confirmed: @AnthropicAI = Supply Chain Risk. The @DoD does what is right for the nation and our warriors,” Pentagon official Pete Hegseth asserted on social media following the judgment.
