President Donald Trump has announced plans to allocate more than $400 million to support Republican candidates in the November 3 midterm elections, as his party seeks to retain control of Congress.
In a Tuesday post on Truth Social, Trump stated that a significant portion of that sum had already been deployed toward campaign outreach efforts.
“More than $300 million has already been spent on advertising, direct and indirect voter outreach, rallies, rally venues, tele-rallies, get-out-the-vote initiatives, election integrity efforts, and more,” Trump said.
“It is my great honor to do so on behalf of the Republican Party, which has worked tirelessly to pull our country back from the brink,” Trump said.
He described the November vote as “the most important midterm election in our country’s history.”
The president did not provide a detailed breakdown of the expenditures or specify how much would be directed to individual races.
The funding pledge arrives as Trump’s Republican Party confronts significant headwinds before the election, including economic criticism and the prolonged U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
Ahead of the vote, Trump’s approval ratings have fallen to historic lows. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released this week found that just 31 percent of Americans approve of his job performance.
Consequently, some Republicans have sought to distance themselves from the president, while others have called for increased support, especially in competitive races against Democrats.
Speculation has grown over whether Trump and his allies will draw from the war chest accumulated by MAGA Inc., the super PAC affiliated with his “Make America Great Again” movement.
As a super PAC, or political action committee, MAGA Inc. can raise unlimited funds from donors to support or oppose federal candidates. However, its spending must legally remain independent of those campaigns.
Last month, the Campaign Legal Center (CLC), a campaign finance watchdog, accused Trump of violating those regulations by asserting control over MAGA Inc.’s expenditures.
The group cited the president’s public remarks, including an Oval Office exchange with reporters on September 4, during which Trump was asked when funds would begin flowing to Republican candidates.
He responded that he would spend “whatever amount of money is necessary” to aid his party, adding: “This is money from MAGA Inc. This is my money that I control.”
According to its most recent federal filing, MAGA Inc. entered September with $415.8 million in cash reserves, positioning it as one of the most significant financial resources in the Republican campaign arsenal.
Trump has nonetheless questioned why the super PAC’s substantial spending has not boosted Republican polling in critical races, including in Ohio, Reuters reported.
Other Trump-aligned groups have also intensified their political advertising, including two newly formed organizations linked to MAGA Inc.: the No Going Back PAC and the Safety and Affordability PAC.
AdImpact, an advertising tracker, found that the No Going Back PAC contributed $68.7 million in political ads last month alone.
Another Trump ally, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, has reportedly spent $366 million since last year on Republican campaigns through America PAC and other Republican and conservative organizations.
In the final stretch of the midterm elections, Trump has embarked on a 32-day campaign blitz, with upcoming stops scheduled in South Carolina and Iowa.
The stakes of this year’s election are considerable, with control of Congress hanging in the balance.
Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress, but Democrats are seeking to capitalize on Trump’s declining popularity to flip the Senate and the House.
Success in those efforts could obstruct Trump’s legislative agenda for the remainder of his presidency.
