Seoirse Comerford, proprietor of the Comerford bar in Doonbeg, called the tournament “unbelievable.”
“Seeing those red double‑decker buses packed with passengers heading up and down the street was something we never imagined possible,” he said.
He noted that the golf course is a major employer and keeps Doonbeg “alive.”
“Many rural villages in western Clare are fading away as young people leave for college and never return,” he observed.
“With over 300 jobs at the golf course, it provides a significant boost to the local economy—comparable to having a firm like Intel in Dublin, but right here in Doonbeg.”
“I likely would not have taken over the bar if the golf course weren’t located nearby,” he added.
“On both Friday and Saturday nights we welcomed upwards of 1,000 visitors to the pub, bringing a lively atmosphere to the village that’s wonderful to see.”
