Turkish police conducted a raid on the headquarters of a pro‑opposition television channel, temporarily suspending its live broadcasts.
Halk TV reported that its staff were unable to access the Istanbul premises on Wednesday morning and that a new manager had been appointed to oversee the channel.
According to Turkish media, financial‑crime investigators were searching the building and 17 arrest warrants had been issued in connection with the channel’s owner.
Halk TV is widely regarded in the country as having close ties to the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and frequently critiques President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ruling AK Party.
In May, a Turkish court barred the CHP leadership from participating in party activities, a decision the opposition argued further consolidated Erdoğan’s grip on power.
Istanbul’s popular mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, widely viewed as Erdoğan’s principal political rival, has been incarcerated for more than a year on corruption allegations, which he denies.
