Twenty Years On, the Irwin Family Honors Steve Irwin’s Enduring Legacy

She reflected on how her father’s passing profoundly affected her mother, Terri, and her younger brother, Robert, who is now 22.

“My mother lost the love of her life, and my brother and I lost the greatest father,” she penned. “Grief never truly leaves us; we walk alongside it every day.”

Bindi also provided insight into how her daughter connects with the grandfather she never had the chance to meet.

“My five-year-old daughter watches his documentaries every morning,” Bindi noted. “She feels completely loved by her ‘grandpa crocodile’ despite never having met him in person.”

Following Steve’s passing, the Irwin family has continued to operate Australia Zoo in Queensland.

“My father left a poignant and lasting impact that will ripple through generations to come,” Bindi wrote, asserting that his life and legacy remain “worth celebrating.”

She expressed gratitude to Steve for being the family’s “guardian angel” and concluded her message by stating she loves him “with my whole heart.”

Steve’s wife, Terri, also utilized social media to commemorate the occasion, sharing an interview in which the khaki-clad wildlife advocate recounted Bindi’s birth and the profound impact it had on him.

“The most incredible wildlife encounter of my life was the birth of my daughter, Bindi,” Steve stated in the interview, displaying his characteristic enthusiasm.

The moment he first held his newborn child, the inspiration for her name instantly struck him.

“I was completely astonished, and that was when her name evolved,” he explained. “I named her ‘Bindi!’ after my favorite crocodile, Bindi,” he added with a broad grin.

Robert Irwin also shared a tribute to his father, attaching a photograph of Steve holding him as a baby alongside the caption, “Your legacy is forever.”

Last November, Robert was crowned the winner of the US dance competition “Dancing with the Stars,” a decade after his sister achieved the same victory.
