Federal regulators have issued recalls for more than 15,000 popular children’s squeeze toys due to serious injury hazards associated with the water beads they contain, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recalls affect two specific products: Squeezy Dumplings, manufactured by GIHNJSI, and Rainbow Mystery Squishy Buns, distributed by OKK Trading. Both items contain water beads capable of expanding significantly within a child’s digestive system, presenting potentially fatal risks.
According to the safety commission, these toys violate federal mandatory safety standards for children’s products because the water beads can expand beyond acceptable size limits. “If a water bead is ingested, it can pose ingestion, choking, and intestinal obstruction hazards inside a child’s body, resulting in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration and a risk of death to a child,” the commission stated in its safety notice.
Approximately 8,000 units of Squeezy Dumplings are included in the recall. These products were sold online through Amazon between May and June for approximately $20. The packaging displays “SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS” and “SQUEEZE ME” labels.
About 7,200 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun toys are also being recalled. These items were available at various third-party retail stores nationwide from May through August. The packaging features “Rainbow MYSTERY” and “SUGAR EDITION” printed on the front label.
Both toys are designed as translucent, round squishy balls decorated with cartoon faces, containing glitter-like particles and water beads inside. The products are packaged in tan plastic containers shaped like bamboo steamers.
Regulatory officials are urging consumers to discontinue use of both toys immediately and contact the respective companies for full refunds. To obtain a refund, customers should clearly mark “RECALLED” on the toy and its container, properly dispose of the product, and submit a photograph to the recalling company via email, according to the commission’s instructions.
No injuries have been reported thus far in connection with either product.
Additionally, the commission has issued a warning to consumers regarding Squishy Bun Toys manufactured by Ivyapingdianpu, urging immediate discontinuation of use and proper disposal. These products also contain water beads and violate mandatory toy safety standards, according to the commission.
Unlike the other manufacturers, Ivyapingdianpu has not agreed to initiate a formal recall or provide a remedy for affected consumers despite receiving a Notice of Violation from the commission.
Approximately 106 of these toys are affected by the safety warning. They can be identified by “SQUISHY BUN” and “Rainbow MYSTERY” labels printed on a removable tag attached to the product.
These toys were sold online through Amazon in June 2026 but may also have been distributed through various third-party sellers and other websites.
No injuries have been reported in connection with these products. The commission urges anyone whose child experiences injuries or notices defects related to these Squishy Buns to contact the agency directly.
