Two Nepalese Hydropower Workers Rescued After Nine Days Trapped in Nepal’s Trishuli 3A Tunnel

Handout images from the Nepal Army capture the rescue of two hydropower workers who survived nine days inside a tunnel buried by mud and debris following devastating floods in the country’s Trishuli Valley.

The workers, identified as Sanjay Sah and Kabir Maharjan, were located roughly 170 metres inside the Trishuli 3A hydropower tunnel in Rasuwa district. Rescuers heard their voices before reaching them and successfully extracted both men alive on Friday, after which they were admitted to a hospital for medical care.

The successful rescue provides renewed hope for other missing workers at hydropower facilities. Hundreds of laborers are still believed to be trapped in tunnels obstructed by flood debris, prompting ongoing efforts by rescue teams to clear entrances and conduct thorough underground searches.
