U.S. Announces $31 Million in Aid Package for Nepal Flood Recovery

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker met today with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal in New York. During the meeting, Under Secretary Hooker conveyed the United States’ condolences to those affected by the devastating floods in Nepal, including the families of approximately 70 Americans who remain unaccounted for.

The United States announced plans to work with Congress to provide $10 million for permanent, custom-built bridges manufactured by U.S. companies. These bridges will restore critical transportation infrastructure in affected areas and enhance regional connectivity.

An additional $8 million will support water, sanitation, and hygiene programs, along with shelter, protection, livelihoods, and winterization assistance for affected communities. The State Department also plans to provide $13 million in U.S.-manufactured drones to strengthen future disaster response capabilities.

This latest funding brings total U.S. assistance to Nepal’s flood response and recovery efforts to more than $36 million. The United States will continue working with the Government of Nepal to identify and deliver additional support where it is most needed.
