The U.S. Department of State has extended its congratulations to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam following the nation’s formal accession to the Artemis Accords, marking Vietnam as the 78th signatory to the international framework for responsible space exploration.
Space exploration is entering a new era characterized by significant scientific advancement, economic opportunity, and transformative technologies. Vietnam’s participation strengthens a growing global coalition committed to advancing human discovery through safe, transparent, and responsible space activities.
The expansion of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into outer space represents a natural evolution of over three decades of bilateral cooperation spanning defense, economic development, law enforcement, war legacy resolution, and technological collaboration. This multifaceted partnership continues to promote peace, stability, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region.
Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology, Vũ Hải Quân, officially signed the Artemis Accords on October 28, 2026, representing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The signing ceremony took place during Vietnam International Digital Week in Ha Long, where U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks served as a witness and celebrated this milestone in international space cooperation.
The Artemis Accords were originally established in 2020 during the Trump administration as a set of voluntary principles designed to guide responsible behavior in space exploration. Currently, the U.S. Department of State and NASA lead the nation’s efforts to implement and promote these guidelines globally.
