U.S. and Chinese defense officials convened in Washington this week for the inaugural session of a Crisis Communications and Prevention Working Group, a mechanism established following a September agreement between the two nations’ leaders.
According to a Pentagon readout released Tuesday, both sides underscored the importance of advancing practical communication measures to mitigate risk. Delegates also explored additional channels to facilitate effective crisis management and ensure timely, reliable exchanges.
“The Department of Defense will continue to advance discussions with the PLA on key defense issues in the coming months,” the Pentagon stated, though specific details regarding future engagements were not disclosed.
