Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has expressed significant concerns over the United States’ international conduct, characterizing it as increasingly erratic and counterproductive to its diplomatic goals.
According to Whitehouse, American voters who supported President Donald Trump are witnessing a clear contradiction of his campaign pledge to avoid impulsive military engagements, particularly regarding the United States’ involvement in conflicts with Iran and Israel.
The lawmaker contends that the approach to the Iran conflict has been characterized by severe mismanagement and lack of transparency, describing it as “spectacularly incompetent and dishonest.”
Whitehouse further notes that other nations are beginning to view the U.S. similarly to some of the most unreliable partners globally, citing instances of covert diplomacy, personal favors, and hidden agendas influencing foreign policy decisions.
He specifically criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that the Israeli leader has not maintained a constructive relationship with the United States.
