Soccer has become a mainstream sport in the United States, attracting massive television audiences for World Cup matches.
Games featuring the U.S. national team generated substantial viewership, but even the remaining matches in the tournament performed well.
According to Sports Business Journal , the 16 single‑elimination Round of 32 games averaged 16.9 million U.S. viewers across Fox’s English‑language broadcast and Telemundo/Peacock’s Spanish‑language coverage.
Fox and its sister network FS1 accounted for 9.5 million of those viewers, while Telemundo and Peacock together averaged 7.4 million. The Spanish‑language audience was evenly split between linear television and streaming, with Peacock alone drawing an average of 3.7 million viewers per game.
Looking ahead, the tournament’s viewership could climb even higher as the competition narrows and stakes increase. A deeper run by the U.S. or Mexico would likely boost numbers further, but regardless, the World Cup continues to draw millions of American fans.
