In a significant diplomatic development, UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan conducted a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday, marking the first publicly disclosed communication between the two nations since the onset of the US-Israeli conflict involving Iran, Anadolu reports.
The UAE Foreign Ministry stated that the officials discussed recent regional developments in the wake of a memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran, which was implemented on June 18 to facilitate an end to the hostilities.
During the conversation, Bin Zayed emphasized the necessity of strict adherence to the agreement’s provisions, asserting that “serious diplomacy and responsible dialogue” continue to be the most effective methods for resolving regional and international crises.
The UAE was one of several Gulf nations affected by Iranian strikes during the conflict initiated by Israel and the US on February 28, during which Tehran maintained that its operations were specifically targeted at US military bases and interests.
