Tea West Indies 168 for 5 (Jangoo 37*, Fernando 2-20, Rathnayaka 2-30) trail Sri Lanka 308 by 140 runs
Sri Lanka’s bowling attack delivered a dominant performance on the second day of the opening Test in North Sound, restricting West Indies to 168 for 5 and maintaining a commanding 140-run advantage.
The hosts lost four wickets between lunch and tea, with John Campbell (39), Kevam Hodge (16), and Joshua Da Silva (20) among those dismissed. Justin Greaves (3) fell shortly before the session ended, leaving West Indies facing a steep challenge with only five wickets remaining in the first innings.
Amir Jangoo remained unbeaten on 37 as West Indies concluded day two at 168 for 5.
Campbell’s dismissal came when he attempted to loft a full delivery from Sonal Dinusha over long-on, resulting in a catch for Nishan Madushka. Milan Rathnayaka then claimed his second wicket of the day by bowling Hodge with a well-lineed good-length ball that induced an inside-edge onto the stumps.
Joshua Da Silva and Jangoo shared a 52-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but Da Silva fell victim to a similar dismissal pattern, hitting a delivery to cover. The innings concluded with Greaves’ attempted sweep shot producing an edge caught by a diving Kusal Mendis.
Sri Lanka missed out on the services of injured fast bowler Lahiru Kumara, who left the field after bowling one over on day two.
