The United Arab Emirates have revealed their 15‑player squad for the Women’s Asia Cup 2026, appointing veteran batter Esha Oza as captain for the home tournament. The competition kicks off on August 28 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with the UAE placed in Group B alongside Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
Esha Oza to lead a talented side
Oza will be pivotal to the UAE’s ambitions in the tournament. As one of the nation’s most accomplished women’s T20I players, she brings substantial leadership experience.
She has captained the UAE in 54 WT20I matches, securing 37 wins for a win‑percentage of 68.51. That record will be invaluable when facing some of the continent’s strongest sides.
With the bat, Oza has amassed 3,403 runs across 117 WT20I appearances, averaging 34.72 and striking at 119.69. Her tally includes five centuries and 14 half‑centuries, underscoring her role at the top of the order.
Familiar names underscore a balanced unit
The squad contains several established figures in UAE women’s cricket, including Archara Supriya, Heena Hotchandani, Indhuja Nandakumar and Janani Thirukkumaran. Lavanya Keny, Mehul Kulkarni and Rinitha Rajith also earn selection.
Additional names are Samaira Dharnidharka, Siya Gokhale, Sashikala Silva, Suraksha Kotte, Theertha Satish, Uttara Iyer and Vaishnave Mahesh. This blend of experience and emerging talent should help the hosts leverage familiar conditions during the group stage.
Opening clash against defending champions
The UAE’s campaign begins with a tough test against defending champions Sri Lanka on August 29 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They will then face Indonesia on September 4 before concluding Group B play versus Bangladesh on September 8. A strong finish will be required to advance to the knockout phase.
The semi‑finals are set for September 10 and 11, with the final scheduled for September 13. Hosting the tournament for the first time, the UAE will be eager to make a memorable impression.
