Uganda closed its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday amid growing concerns over the potential spread of the Ebola virus. The restrictions come after seven confirmed Ebola cases were reported in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.
The Ugandan government announced that the border closure would include several key exceptions, such as authorized Ebola response teams, humanitarian operations, food and cargo transportation, and security personnel. Officials emphasized that while the measure is temporary, it underscores the seriousness of containing the outbreak in neighboring regions.
A government spokesperson stated, “We must act decisively to protect our population while ensuring that essential services and emergency response efforts continue uninterrupted.”
