This initiative follows recent UK support for Ukraine’s indigenous production of long-range missiles and a pioneering AI agreement to enhance military capabilities.
As part of its commitment to Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty, the UK will provide air defence interceptors, large-calibre artillery rounds, and drones to assist Ukraine in defending against brutal Russian attacks this winter.
By contributing £100 million to NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), the UK will facilitate the delivery of Patriot missiles and additional air defence systems to Ukraine before winter arrives. This support is crucial for protecting Ukraine’s essential infrastructure, civilian population, and military forces from Russian assaults. The move comes after the Prime Minister and Defence Secretary’s visits to Kyiv, where President Zelenskyy emphasised the need for enhanced aid as winter approaches.
The UK’s pledge to supply more than 120,000 drones to Ukraine this year is ongoing, with 25,000 already delivered. This number is expected to increase significantly before winter. The drones comprise interceptor models to neutralise Russian drones, reconnaissance drones for battlefield intelligence, and attack drones to enable Ukraine to strike Russian positions.
This development coincides with a significant milestone in military aid, as the UK recently delivered its one millionth round of large-calibre artillery ammunition to Ukraine, which is critical for its defence. Furthermore, the UK plans to deliver tens of thousands of long-range artillery shells in the upcoming months, supported by funding from Britain, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

Both the Prime Minister and I heard loud and clear on our first visits to Kyiv the importance of supporting Ukraine through this winter, as Putin prepares to use winter as a weapon by continuing barbaric attacks against civilian and energy targets.
We promised to mobilise allies and provide more support wherever we can. Today, we are delivering on that, strengthening Ukraine’s defences and, alongside 50 allies, converting commitment into capability.
We will stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine until they win. Ukraine’s frontline is the frontline for freedom everywhere and our support will not waver.
This military assistance comes after the Prime Minister’s announcement that the UK has permitted defence company MBDA to disclose classified details on UK components for the SCALP missile, also known as Storm Shadow, to facilitate local assembly lines in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister’s recent trip to Kyiv included a meeting with President Zelenskyy and the signing of a historic AI agreement, aimed at collaborative development of advanced military technologies and future capabilities.
The Ukraine Defence Contact Group, co-chaired by the Defence Secretary and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius, convened today with participation from nearly 50 nations. This 36th meeting addresses Ukraine’s immediate battlefield needs and reinforces long-term military support.
