Andy Burnham stated on Monday that a suspected plot targeting the RAF Fairford airbase was “highly likely” coordinated in Iran and almost certainly directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The Gloucestershire base, which hosts U.S. bombers deployed for operations against Iran, became the focus of a major security operation after five British men were arrested nearby in the early hours of September 27 on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offences.
U.S. officials informed Reuters of a suspected Iranian plot to launch a drone attack, while President Donald Trump confirmed last week that an Iran-linked threat prompted the decision to withdraw the bombers from the facility.
