Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced his resignation Wednesday as part of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s cabinet overhaul, which also saw Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko step down after a year in office.

“It was a great honor to serve the Ukrainian people as defense minister,” Fedorov stated in a detailed Telegram post outlining the accomplishments of his ministry, which he had led since January.

Fedorov highlighted significant advancements in drone technology and deployment since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022, alongside the initiation of comprehensive military reforms.

The resignation follows Tuesday’s parliamentary approval of Prime Minister Svyrydenko’s departure, marking another shift in Ukraine’s wartime leadership structure.

At 35 years old, Fedorov became Ukraine’s youngest defense minister, committed to revitalizing the country’s military capabilities.

He emerged as a leading proponent of drone warfare, which has become increasingly pivotal on frontline operations.

Fedorov also secured a strategic partnership with Elon Musk to provide Ukrainian forces with Starlink satellite communications while restricting Russian military access to the technology.

Ukrainian outlets report Interior Minister Igor Klymenko is likely to assume the defense portfolio following Fedorov’s exit.
