The United Nations maritime agency has initiated a large-scale operation to evacuate over 11,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. This mission follows a pause in hostilities triggered by a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran. The critical waterway had been effectively blocked by Iran since February, leaving numerous vessels trapped for several months.
