This might be Undercover’s final resort collection as an independent label. Currently 80% owned by founder Jun Takahashi and 20% by his younger brother and business partner Hiroshi, the brand is approaching a major structural shift. Human Made Corporation, founded by Nigo, has signed a non-binding agreement to acquire Undercover, with a 100% share purchase agreement targeted for September 2026 and full transfer planned for February 2027.

The Takahashi brothers will likely continue contributing to the label for several years. While Human Made may act as a benevolent and potentially transformative partner, the transfer of control signifies a fundamental realignment of Undercover’s creative direction.

The Resort 2027 collection embraced a focus on delicate details and softened silhouettes. Pieces featured lace trims, subtle cat prints, and sheer panels that softened their outlines. A brown V-neck dress was framed by navy bands at the sleeves and hem, while oversized T-shirts, boxy shirts, and cropped jackets were interrupted by translucent gauze layers. Manish shirts elongated into tunics, alongside easy wide-leg shorts and trousers, while seemingly simple pieces gained complexity through aprons, slips, bibs, and loose overlays.

Many designs explored the intersection of traditional femininity’s cultural tropes. White shirts worn under corset-like black panels or split at the side to reveal pleated layers exemplified this theme. Gingham, denim, and sailor-inspired ribbon ties added a sweetness that Takahashi balanced with unexpected proportions and unexpected twists in detail—hallmarks of Undercover’s enduring aesthetic.
