United States Commemorates Morocco’s Throne Day, Reaffirming Deepening Strategic Ties

On behalf of the United States, I extend my warmest greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people on the occasion of His Majesty’s accession to the throne.

For nearly 250 years, the United States and Morocco have maintained the longest-standing friendship in American history. This robust and enduring partnership is anchored in shared values and a collective dedication to peace, security, and prosperity.

The United States remains unequivocal in its recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. We support Morocco’s serious, credible, and realistic Autonomy Proposal as the only viable foundation for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable resolution. Any alternative path merely prolongs the status quo and is unacceptable. Implementing genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty offers the region and the continent a definitive path forward after five decades. This dispute must be resolved, and the United States will continue to advocate for a mutually beneficial solution for all residents of the region.

Under His Majesty’s leadership, Morocco has served as a vital pillar of regional stability and security, notably through its influential role in the Abraham Accords. The United States deeply values this alliance and is committed to enhancing our collaboration to secure the Sahel. His Majesty’s vision for economic growth promises new prosperity for both our nations. Consequently, the administration is dedicated to fostering economic and social development in partnership with Morocco, including within the Western Sahara territory. As we look toward the next 250 years of cooperation, the United States remains a steadfast partner in the sectors of energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense.

Together, we will continue to promote peace, regional stability, and economic advancements that benefit both our peoples.
