U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll has tendered his resignation, following months of escalating tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, multiple media outlets reported.
The White House did not refute the Wall Street Journal’s report of Driscoll’s resignation when questioned on Monday.
In a statement, Army spokeswoman Anna Kelly praised Driscoll’s contributions, saying, “Secretary Driscoll has been highly effective in advancing President Trump’s agenda to Make America Strong Again at the Department of the Army by providing outstanding leadership during historic military operations, restoring an emphasis on readiness and lethality, assisting with negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and more.”
“The United States Army is more powerful than ever thanks to his work alongside the Commander-in-Chief and Secretary of War,” Kelly added.
According to Reuters, citing an unnamed source familiar with the situation, it remains unclear whether the White House has formally accepted Driscoll’s resignation.
The Army did not provide additional comment.
Driscoll, who is widely seen as an ally of Vice President JD Vance, is the most recent high-ranking official to depart the Pentagon under Hegseth’s leadership.
This follows a significant reshuffling in April, when Hegseth dismissed Army Chief of Staff General Randy George as part of broader personnel changes within the Defense Department.
