Disagreements between Washington and Beijing over potential investment announcements have created obstacles for a Chinese business delegation anticipated to accompany President Xi Jinping on his state visit to the United States, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Time is rapidly running out for the Chinese business leaders, as Xi is expected to reach Washington by Wednesday. The narrowing window has heightened concerns about whether the delegation will be finalized in time.
A source briefed on the discussions said that Washington and Beijing have not yet reconciled their differences regarding the Board of Investment, especially concerning prospective Chinese investments in the US. This unresolved impasse has cast doubt over the delegation’s ability to travel alongside the president.
The investment forum was among the key outcomes agreed upon during Xi and his US counterpart Donald Trump’s previous summit in Beijing in May, but progress on the initiative has since stalled.
