The national average price for regular gasoline surged to $4.15 per gallon over the Labor Day weekend, marking a record high for the holiday.

According to the American Automobile Association, this is the first time the Labor Day average has topped $4 per gallon.

Although the current average remains below the all‑time peak of $5.02 a gallon set in June 2022, the holiday surge underscores ongoing pressure on drivers.

Diesel prices also hit a new record, reaching $5.85 a gallon on Friday and climbing an additional 5 cents by Monday, AAA reported.
