US Forces Neutralize Iranian Rocket Launchers on Larak Island in Precision Operation

On Sunday, US forces conducted targeted strikes on two Iranian launcher systems situated on Larak Island, marking the first such attacks on Iranian soil since late July, according to an official referenced by Axios and Anadolu.

This operation followed a month-long lull in direct military engagements and aimed at systems reportedly being prepared to deploy rockets carrying naval mines into the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key conduit for global oil transfers.

A US official stated that American forces are closely monitoring the area and remain vigilant in protecting the free flow of commerce through this critical waterway. The Strait of Hormuz narrows to approximately 39 kilometers between Larak Island and Oman’s Great Quoin Island.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported casualties among fighters and civilians in the strike and vowed retaliation. Iran’s Tasnim news agency indicated that initial information suggested the attack was carried out by drones.

Details regarding the outcomes of the strike were not immediately available.

President Donald Trump recently announced the removal of all mines from the Strait of Hormuz and enforced a “zero tolerance policy” against new mine placements. He emphasized the use of Space Force technology for high-precision surveillance of the region.

Iranian officials have asserted that the exact locations of mines in the strategic waterway are known exclusively to Iran.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have remained elevated since the conflict began with strikes on Iran in late February. Although a memorandum of understanding was reached in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, the US initiated a two-week bombing campaign and reimposed a naval blockade in July following disputes over navigation in the strait.

It remains uncertain whether the latest strike is an isolated event or the beginning of a new, sustained bombing campaign.
