US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed air strikes in southern Iran on Thursday morning, following days of heightened military activity. Explosions were reported across the region, including Bushehr, Abu Musa, Kish Island, Ahwaz, and Qeshm Island, as stated by Iranian state media outlets like Press TV.
These strikes occurred in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attacks on US military bases in the Middle East earlier that day. The US military emphasized the broad scope of the target set, according to Fox News sources.
The deputy governor of Hormozgan province noted that US operations focused on areas near Qeshm Island. Simultaneously, Tasnim News Agency reported three explosions on the island itself, including a direct hit on a residential area.
Additional explosions were recorded in Kazerun, southern Iran, according to Tasnim’s reporting. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the initial missile strikes, targeting US bases in Jordan and other Middle Eastern locations.
Jordanian air defenses intercepted and shot down five Iranian missiles. CENTCOM’s social media channels highlighted the retaliation effort, aligning with reports of Iran’s alleged surprise attack using ballistic missiles.
